About
Welcome to River Prawn, a hidden gem nestled along the picturesque banks of U Thong Road in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Thailand. This charming restaurant has quickly garnered attention for its delectable offerings, especially when it comes to their namesake dish – succulent river prawns. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a warm ambiance that perfectly complements the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen.
One cannot visit River Prawn without indulging in the restaurant's iconic grilled river prawns. Diners rave about the large prawns, renowned for their tender, slightly chewy meat and creamy roe that adds an extra dimension to the taste experience. Each dish is meticulously prepared and artfully presented, often accompanied by a zesty chili sauce that elevates the flavors to new heights.
The menu doesn't stop there; guests have also enjoyed the fish soup—a recommendation from the attentive staff. Its unique flavor profile, courtesy of a lesser-known fresh fish, has left a lasting impression on visitors. Pair this with the stunning view of the river and the church across the water, and you're in for an unforgettable culinary experience.
Customer reviews highlight a consistent theme: River Prawn offers great views and excellent food without the hectic presence of tour bus crowds. The relaxed atmosphere is complemented by ample parking, making it easily accessible for locals and travelers alike. While some diners noted that the seating could be more comfortable, the overall experience—affordability, ambiance, and delectable dishes—more than balances this minor drawback.
However, it’s worth mentioning that some have found the spice level in certain dishes, such as the seafood soup, to be milder than expected. For spice lovers, be sure to request extra chili sauce to kick your meal up a notch.
River Prawn is more than just a restaurant; it’s a destination for food enthusiasts seeking the freshest seafood while enjoying stunning riverside views. Whether you're a die-hard river prawn fan or simply looking to savor quality Thai cuisine, this restaurant promises to deliver a delightful experience that resonates with your taste buds and creates lasting memories.
“ We stumbled upon this place in search of river prawns, and it turned out to be a delightful surprise. We chose the large grilled prawns, served beautifully with chili sauce, featuring tender, slightly chewy meat and roe (which is the creamy part inside the prawn). The staff recommended a fish soup, made with a fish we didn't recognize, but it was fresh and the soup was really flavorful. There's plenty of parking, and you also get a lovely view of a church across the river. ”
“ Directly on the river with plenty of parking. The sign is small so dont miss it lol. Yes the prices are a bit high but all things considered (on the river and high tourist town) i think its a good restaurant with fair prices. I enjoyed dinner with friends and we all thought the food was good. I will say i ordered the spicy seafood soup and it had zero spice. Yes im a farang but i love spice so i was disappointed and there was no chili sauce on the table. ”
“ This restaurant is a little bit further down the road but they serve the same insane sized river prawns but no tour bus tourists around. Great views of the river, the church across and a beautiful colored free view of the sun going down I'm not a fan of river prawns unlike my company who loved the large ones, so I had beef with oyster sauce. To my taste adding a whole grilled union wouldn't be needed. I like my greens better. The seating is plenty but not the most comfortable, yet the view and ambience and pricing makes up for that. ”
